Golf Lessons

Theo,  the owner of the golf course provides golf instruction to individuals and groups. Although not a Golf Professional he has been a tennis instructor, and once played against Bobby Riggs and also gives bridge and klaverjas, a Dutch card game, lessons. "I consider myself a better instructor than player when it comes to golf". Our fees are very reasonable. We have a large Practice Green.

GOLF LESSONS
$ 30.00 for 1 hour
Add $ 10.00 for each additional
person to a maximum of $ 60.00

Clubs, putters, practice balls and tees provided by the club.

CONDENSED INSTRUCTION SCHEDULE:
• How golf differs from other ball or puck hitting sports and the mechanics of golf clubs.
• Explain the handicap system and different type of golf games.
• Show difference between a driver and a 64 degree wedge.
• Gripping the club and basic swing motion.
• The power of the club face hitting the ball.
• Teeing off with a tee and playing fairway irons and woods.
• Pitching and Chipping.
• Putting: 50% of your regulation score.
• Difficult shots: Sand wedge and Lob wedge.
• Using all four types of shots on a hole.

After 2 hours of instruction one can reasonably be expected to play golf from the forward tees, initially a 2 person scramble format is recommended.. We advise not to play any difficult shots but continue to place the ball for each shot away from poor lies, the rough, trees and sand until a level of confidence and competence is reached with an average of 2 over par results, which is an official handicap. Also with four hours of instruction, which includes playing an actual hole it is recommended that in the beginning playing with other new golfers to play initially in the scramble format. Every time the best positioned ball is chosen, even on the putting green and played by all players from that spot until the ball is holed out. In particular we recommend this with younger golfers playing with their parents. This way there is less frustration and a better and faster understanding of this wonderful game while instilling that this game can be very competitive. A good example is when one parent and one child plays against the other parent with one child in the scramble format while keeping score. The children are then so enthusiastic about golf that they want to come back the next day!

POCKET GUIDEFROM THE BLUE TEES
No. 1 hole, 185 yards. Par 3
A difficult starting hole, a long iron or even a fairway wood is required to reach the elevated green, which is protected by sand traps and a large tree when the pin is on the right. Most players will push their ball left of the green. A bogey is a good score.

No. 2 hole, 527 yards. Par 5
This is a beautiful long hole down into the valley, not reachable in two. You have to cross about 150 yards of water hazard, and your second shot should be laid-up around the 100-yard marker as the river comes in play on both sides of the fairway. Your approach over a large sand trap will give you an easy par.

No. 3 hole, 157 yards. Par 3
This is the Club's signature hole, with an iron shot or 5 wood over the Magnetawan River to a small green, shaped like an upside down dish. If you don't lose your ball in the water, you'll be glad with a bogey! The drop area is 40 yards to the green.

No. 4 hole, 320 yards. Par 4
A blind uphill tee-shot, with the CNR Railway as a lateral hazard on the right, towards a wide fairway. Your approach will be to a two-tiered green protected by a large sand trap. Leave your driver in your bag and with a good second shot, you'll make par.

No. 5 hole, 455 yards. Par 5
Our second par 5, where you can reach the green in two, giving you an eagle opportunity, this however requires a long accurate drive, over a water hazard, keeping it left and away from the lateral hazard on the right. Then a perfect approach shot to an elevated green protected by a bunker. In any case a birdie hole.

No. 6 hole, 370 yards. Par 4
With a straight drive out of a shoot, a relative easy hole, except that the approach is too a small elevated green, surrounded by a deep rough, more typical of the British Open than the Muskokas. Some prefer to lay-up in front to chip close to the pin for a par.

No. 7 hole, 312 yards. Par 4
Our easiest hole, however it has the most difficult, undulating green and with any slice, or hook for a leftie, the approach may require a lob wedge to clear the trees protecting this beautiful green. With a straight fairway drive a good birdie opportunity.

No. 8 hole, 315 yards. Par 4
A dog leg to the right requires an accurate long but blind iron tee-shot to around the 100 yard marker with a wedge shot towards a small green protected by a front bunker. However, with a driver one can get close to the green and a chance for a birdie.

No. 9 hole, 170 yards. Par 3
A not too hard finishing hole, although protected by sand traps, an acurate tee-shot can bring you within birdie range, to give you the opportunity to beat your partner or improve your score.
